The mycotoxins and the skin

Learn how mycotoxins affext your skin

Mycotoxins can also damage the skin, both directly (when there is contact with mold spores/mycotoxins in the environment) and indirectly (through internal toxicity after ingestion or inhalation). The skin is often a “warning organ,” showing early signs that the body is overloaded with toxins.

How mycotoxins damage the skin

1. Inflammation of the immune system

Mycotoxins activate mast cells and inflammatory cytokines.
👉 This leads to itching, redness, hives, and eczema-like rashes.

2. Oxidative stress

They increase free radicals and deplete antioxidants like glutathione.
👉 This accelerates skin aging, dryness, and irritation.

3. Microcirculation problems

Mycotoxins affect the small blood vessels of the skin.
👉 Poor circulation → pale or blotchy skin, cold hands/feet, slower healing.

4. Barrier impairment

The skin barrier (lipids + keratin) becomes weaker.
👉 Result: sensitivity, dermatitis, burning sensation, allergies to products that normally would not irritate.

5. Histamine overload

Many people with mold toxicity become histamine-intolerant.
👉 This causes flushing, itching, redness after eating, or after heat/exercise.

Common skin symptoms caused by mycotoxins

Hives (urticaria)->Histamine response

Unexplained rashes->Immune dysregulation

Dry, flaky skin->Oxidative stress & dehydration

Acne-like inflammation->Immune + hormonal disruption

Slow wound healing->Microcirculation damage

Hyperpigmentation / spots->Oxidative stress

Tingling or crawling sensation->Neurotoxic effect on nerve endings

Itchy or burning skin->Neurotoxic & inflammatory effect

Eczema/dermatitis->Barrier disruption & immune activation

Why skin problems often come with mold exposure

The skin is a detox organ → when liver & kidneys are overloaded, toxins “leak” through the skin
Mycotoxins trigger systemic inflammation
They weaken the immune system → more infections, fungal or bacterial
They disrupt microbiome (gut–skin axis)

A clue that points to mold/mycotoxins specifically

You are more likely dealing with mycotoxin-related skin issues if:

  • Symptoms get worse in damp buildings or old houses

  • Skin flares after humidity / rain / basement exposure

  • You also have fatigue + sinus or respiratory symptoms

  • Rashes move or change location spontaneously

  • Antihistamines help but do not fully fix the problem

Here are the types of rashes and skin reactions most often seen with mycotoxins and histamine issues.

1. Urticaria (Hives)

Appearance: raised, itchy bumps or plaques; can move around the body
Why: sudden histamine release from mast cells
Clue: a patch can disappear in 30 minutes and appear elsewhere

2. Eczema / Atopic dermatitis

Appearance: red, dry, irritated patches, often on hands, neck, or inner elbows
Why: skin barrier weakened + immune activation
Clue: becomes worse in humidity or in old buildings

3. Flushing / Redness (especially face, chest, ears)

Appearance: hot, red skin, often sudden
Why: histamine causes vasodilation
Clue: often after shower, wine, stress, or heat

4. Burning or tingling sensation without visible rash

Appearance: nothing visible, but feels like “burning” or “ants crawling”
Why: neurotoxic effect + mast cell irritation
Clue: worse at night or after being in a moldy room

5. Dermatitis on hands or feet

Appearance: dry, cracked, itchy skin or tiny blisters
Why: sweat glands + nerve endings react to toxins
Clue: many people think it’s “allergy to soap,” but removing mold exposure improves it

· 6. Hyperpigmentation / dark spots

Appearance: brown patches or uneven tone
Why: oxidative stress and inflammation
Clue: doesn’t always respond to creams because the cause is internal

7. Slow wound healing

Appearance: small cuts or irritations take longer to heal
Why: microcirculation problems + nutrient depletion
Clue: accompanies fatigue and poor detox.

If you see yourself in this description and the doctor couldn't help you till now, mycotoxins could be the underground problem causing your suffering.

My atopic dermatitis that I had since the childhood completely disappeared after detoxing from the mycotoxins. I wish you the same!
